Collective Description of the Wosk Masterworks Print Collection: a knowledge exchange for printmakers, archivists, and librarians
Collective Description starts with a two day colloquium that will engage printmakers, archivists and librarians in a knowledge exchange with the goal of improving access to Emily Carr University’s print collection. The knowledge shared at the colloquium will inform ongoing work that considers decolonial approaches to collection care, which centre connections, relationships and collaboration in the process of describing and providing access to cultural materials.
Participants will participate in hands-on workshops with items in the Wosk Masterworks Print Collection – a teaching collection intended for object based learning – and work collaboratively to enhance descriptions of the prints in order to contextualize the holdings and improve access and discovery.
The colloquium can act as a case study for collective description practices at other collecting institutions including galleries, libraries, archives and museums that have teaching collections.
